About This Newsletter 12. How to Reach Cruzio (dial-in or tech support) 1. Goodbye, Barbara Our beloved General Manager, Barbara Diamond, will be leaving Cruzio's employ to return to school and study Interior Design. Barbara instituted such valued additions to the Cruzio Way as the food-for-late-fee exchange and personally helped hundreds of customers in her three-year tenure. She did some very fine interior design work for us too! Soon we'll announce the new lineup in Cruzio management, but we thought it would be nice to let Barbara have the spotlight alone here one last time. We'll miss you, Barbara. 2. Cruzio DSL sale now Want to upgrade your Internet speed to DSL*? Until the end of August, Cruzio is giving away FREE DSL modems to people ordering DSL with Web and Domain, and selling DSL modems at just $49.95 each to those who buy new Cruzio DSL service. You must sign up for a full year. The normal modem price is $160, so you save over $100. This is a great deal. To get the modem special, just come in to Cruzio's downtown Santa Cruz office (903 Pacific Ave), call us at 459-6301, or sign up for Cruzio DSL online at https://www4.cruzio.com/w4a002/dsl/csiorder.html before August 31st, 2002. *Cruzio DSL downloads from the Internet at speeds of up to 1.5 megabits per second. And with DSL you can use your telephone and the Internet at the same time. 3. FREE DSL Brown Bag Workshop this Thursday This Thursday, August 15th, 12-1:30 pm, Cruzio will be holding a FREE Brown Bag Workshop: "DSL: High Speed Internet Connections at your Home or Office" DSL is a high-speed Internet connection for one or more computers. We'll explain how DSL works, the cost, how to know if your computer and location can get it, and we'll answer your DSL questions. See http://www.cruzio.com/support/business/brownbags.html to read more and to register. Thursday's presenters will be the ultra-knowledgeable Alec and Ben from Cruzio technical support, who have a great deal of insight on how to get the most from a DSL connection. Please come with any questions you have. 4. We're Getting a New Phone System Cruzio is getting a spiffy new phone system. Our phone expert says things are going to be "quirky" for a few weeks. We will be working hard to make sure every call is handled properly, but occasionally things may go awry as we work out the bugs. Please be patient! It's going to be a great improvement in the long run. 5. Cruzio Staff at a Coffeeshop Near You Join Cruzio for Internet-Coffee Talk Mon, Aug 19th at the Ugly Mug in Soquel, 4-6pm Wed, Aug 28th at the Boulder Creek Coffeetopia, 8:30-10:30am Talk Internet with Cruzio at a coffeeshop near you! Ask Cruzio staff about DSL, Email, ecommerce with ShopSite, Web & domain hosting. At these next visits, Cruzio staff will also show you how to use Cruzio's advanced Spam Filter. Reserve a time for the Spam Filter demonstration in advance at http://www.cruzio.com/support/business/coffeeshops.html If you don't have a chance to catch us at a coffee shop, you're welcome to call or come by and our friendly staff will quickly explain how to use spam filters (it's very easy!) 6. Small Business Fair Coming in October This October Cruzio will be presenting our 4th annual Small Business Fair. Cruzio has many small business members, and we're not such a huge business ourselves. We know it can be so much better to meet a vendor or potential client in person than to hit-or-miss with the phone book, and it's great to get advice on permits, forms, and other necessary business trivia. We'll present four Wednesday evening programs, in the Museum of Art and History in Downtown Santa Cruz, a lovely venue (and very fitting this year, as one of our events focuses on the business of Art.) We'll serve excellent snacks, as always. Our four events: Oct 9: "Growing Your Business" Business plans, permits, marketing tips. Oct 16: "The Labor Game: For Employers and Employees" Tips on finding employees or finding a local job. Oct 23: "Ways to Make Money in a Post Dot-com World" Ecommerce and other technical advice for businesses. Oct 30: "Expose Your Art to a Broader Audience" The artist as entrepreneur; making connections, finding markets. Watch this space for further info about the Fair! 7. What do you like about www.cruzio.com? Cruzio is in the last few months of our home page re-vamp. We are enthusiastic about the new look -- it's slicker and prettier, but doesn't lose the homey touches and, yes, the Cruzio cat is still featured prominently. Many of you contributed ideas to our work, and we thank you. We'll let you know as the release date approaches, sometime in early fall. If you enjoy using Cruzio's home page, we'd love to hear what you like and why. http://www.cruzio.com gets over 6,000 unique hits a day, and has had 9 million hits since December 1995. We would like to use the makeover as an opportunity to celebrate the site and the local online community it represents. So please send in your thoughts; we'll put many of them on the site and in our ads. (Please be clear if you'd rather NOT see your words in print!) 8. Buddy Bucks We value your referrals: when you send in a friend to sign up with Cruzio, you will get $10 credit on your Cruzio account. Just make sure they tell us your name, your email login or your registration number when they sign up. 9. If bring three cans of food in to Cruzio's food barrel, we'll forgive your late fee. 11. About This Newsletter Cruzio doesn't like to waste bandwidth with extra email, but we sometimes have events and announcements that users need to know about. This seems like the most efficient way to let people know what's happening. Hope it's helpful. Please email support@cruzio.com with any comments or questions. By the way, we would love to have a regular, predictable schedule for this newsletter...but we simply do not send it unless there is real news enclosed. Thus the haphazard datelines. 12.
