1. It's time to sign up for August Classes

3 series next month:

Publishing on the Internet - intermediate (continuing from beginner)
*Don't forget to ask for your Cruzio member discount*
For more information, and a schedule, check http://www.cruzio.com/classes/
2. Business Fair report
Cruzio's Business Fair, held in our downtown facilities on June 29, 1999,
was a tremendous success. Nearly 200 Internet businesses and
Internet-business-wannabe's gathered together, looking at booths, attending
free workshops, and sharing experiences. The feedback from participants
was that they got a) good business leads and b) plenty of information about
how to do things technically. Cruzio is planning some smaller, more
casual workshops as well. Please e-mail events@cruzio.com if you'd like
to participate in workshops or other events.
Special thanks to those who helped out at the Fair: our Fair co-ordinator
Kathy; Snacks Chef Jessica; speakers Jay, John, Mark and Jeff Liebermann;
Patton, Will, Martin and Temoc, who helped in numerous ways.
You guys are awesome.
3. Event schedule:
Here's what's happening at Cruzio in the near future:
* Classroom Dedication for the Senior Computer Center of Santa Cruz
Thursday, August 19 1999, 2:30 to 5pm at Cruzio's downtown store
Cruzio donates Internet access and other amenities to the Senior
Center, and now the Senior Center is also holding classes in the
Cruzio facility. Everyone is invited to a dedication and
celebration of this expanded partnership. A featured speaker will
be Dr. Mary Furlong, a founder of Senior Net and co-author of
a new book called "The Grown-Up's Guide to Computing".
(Certainly a relief from the "Guides for Dummies", "Guides for
Morons", "Guides for Idiots" trend!)
* Building a Successful Internet Presence for your Business
Wednesday, September 15 1999, 12:30 to 2pm at Cruzio's downtown store
Hosted by Chris Neklason, CEO of Cruzio/The Internet Store,
who will speak about trends and strategies that small and home-
based businesses can use. $5 to register for this workshop,
extra fee for lunch.
Bring your lunch or call Kathy at 408 799-7121 to order sandwiches.
(This is the first of a series of lunchtime workshops).
4. Buddy Bucks - sign up a friend, save $10 on Cruzio services
Another reminder. Get a "Buddy Bucks" coupon from Cruzio and fill it out
for a friend who's signing up. When the friend signs up with Cruzio,
we will credit your account $10.00.
5. Looking for Shakespeare? Palookaville, Catalyst or Bookshop events?
On Cruzio's home page, http://www.cruzio.com, our calendar lists
dates, times and locations for all sorts of local events: entertainment,
class schedules, political rallies, garage sales... you name it. Cruzio
members can enter events of their own (up to 2 at a time) free of charge.
Try it!
6. Guests need e-mail? Send 'em downtown.
If houseguests are visiting Santa Cruz and want to check their e-mail,
they can come downtown to the Cruzio store. For $4.00 per half-hour
they can read web-based e-mail and browse the web to their hearts'
content. Your gain is peace of mind regarding the health and privacy
of your computer.
7. About This Newsletter
Cruzio doesn't like to waste bandwidth with extra email, but we sometimes
have events and announcements that users need to know about. This seems
like the most efficient way to let people know what's happening. Hope
it's helpful. Please email support@cruzio.com with any comments or questions.
By the way, we would love to have a regular, predictable schedule
for this newsletter...but we simply do not send it unless there is real
news enclosed. Thus the haphazard datelines.
