On a recent Saturday morning, myself and other committed staff and volunteers of Cruzio Internet and HOPE Services joined to host an electronic waste recycling day.

We were delighted to meet a number of Cruzio members, neighbors, friends and supporters who delivered a steady stream of e-waste for the free collection event. Donations included everything from out-of-service TVs to one of the first IBM personal computers. It’s amazing to see the variety of electronics we each collect and how hard it can be to part with them.

By the end of the day HOPE Services’ loading bay was crammed full of eleven pallets piled high, totaling 7500 pounds of recyclable waste. The electronics were then trucked off to ASL recycling services, where components are safely recycled and zero percent of the electronics enter a landfill. We are proud to report that nearly $1000 in proceeds went directly to HOPE Services.

We’re so excited about this successful partnership that Cruzio and HOPE Services plan to host e-waste events bi-annually. If you need to drop off something sooner, visit HOPE Services, or call them at 831-600-1510 for more information. They’ll be happy to hear from you!

If you’re unfamiliar with HOPE Services, they are a not for profit organization that provides a range of employment and job training programs for 3,000 children, adults and seniors. Visit hopeservices.org for more information.
