On Friday, February 11th, Cruzio and Ecology Action got together to celebrate the opening of our newly renovated building at 877 Cedar Street.
Cruzio will be holding another celebration — open to the public, yes, you are invited — when we light up the gigabit fiber we’ve brought into downtown Santa Cruz. The date isn’t set yet, but we expect it in late March. But here are some pics from the first one:
Our exciting new Technology Services position is based around the following core set of duties:
Wireless On-site Telecomm:
-Research, design, test and deploy of wireless infrastructure in PtP and PtMP technologies
-Maintain existing and new wireless infrastructure
-respond to emergency wireless infrastructure outages as prescribed by SLA’s and Cruzio’s standard network response policies
-Handle inside wiring and interface with telephone network wiring
Pretty impressive air conditioner in Cruzio’s new data center! We’ll soon be hosting servers in the space, which will be also be fitted out with gigantic UPS and generator units, as well as an FM200 fire suppression system.
Cruzio is in the final stretch of our renovation project and the building is looking fine. It’s on the corner of Cedar and Church Street in downtown Santa Cruz, and we have already started moving in.
The coworking space has huge North-facing windows over it — a beautiful, well-lit space. Many windows are openable, providing pleasant fresh air on nice days.
Walls have been framed, sheetrocked and taped. Kind of beautiful to look at the unfinished bones of Cruzio’s new office space.

It’s not going to be a typical bland office space…

Now Cruzio’s new building is more than a skeleton. We’ve got rooms becoming actual rooms, with sheetrock, tape and plaster. It’s exciting to see our floorplan fleshed out and becoming 3-dimensional at last.
We’re impatient to move in, but there’s still another month of work to go.

When the walls in a steel-and-concrete building are framed, it’s silver all around. There aren’t any walls to block the light, so one room shines into another and another. Kind of sad that it has to get filled in.

The Venue
The Festival Glen, the outdoor amphitheater alone makes this play worth seeing. The 8 PM show allows for a beautiful transformation from day to night characteristic of these summer months. I was surrounded by magical giants, redwoods that seemed to protect from harm as well as weather. The pine scent in the forest grove felt a million miles from the bustle of downtown Santa Cruz. Where else can you lay on a blanket, sip wine from the bottle, and watch a live performance under the stars? This decadent, romantic setting seems to push the limits of legality, but it remains perfectly legal.
